Cairo, 2nd of March, 2020 - Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, announced completing the installation of a system for extracting water from wells using solar energy in the village of El-Hutiyah in Farafra Oasis, El-Wadi El-Gedid Governorate. Schneider Electric also extended water pipes for a distance of one kilometer, using its EcoStruxure™ system, which ensures real time monitoring of the process of water production and extraction from the well. The project inauguration was in the presence of Dr. Hanan Magdy, Deputy of El-Wadi El-Gedid Governor, Eng. Abdul Hakam Al-Gebali, Adviser to El-Wadi El-Gedid Governor for Projects and Infrastructure, as well as a number of Schneider Electric's senior management
This initiative, which came within the framework of the efforts of Schneider Electric's community service team to achieve the sustainable development goals, was implemented in cooperation with Gila Electric, the certified agent of Schneider Electric in Egypt, with respect to the design and implementation of the project’s control panel that contains the latest Schneider Electric products. The project also came in implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between Schneider Electric and the Ministry of Social Solidarity, within the first phase of ‘Hayat Karima’ initiative. Schneider Electric has contributed to this initiative by providing five villages with water, electricity and job opportunities for its residents
The water extraction project in El-Hutiyah village is one of Schneider Electric's initiatives to achieve sustainable development goals and provide solutions for obtaining clean water using solar energy. The residents of the village were relying on extracting water from the well using a 100-Kilowatt generator to operate a pump, which consumed 10 liters of diesel per hour, while the extracted water was not enough to grow 60 acres. However, the solutions provided by Schneider Electric now provide the water sufficient enough to grow 380 acres, which means developing the area and providing more job opportunities to its residents, in addition to protecting their health from the negative effects of diesel utilization
During the celebration of the extraction of water from the well, Eng. Walid Sheta, Regional President of Schneider Electric Egypt, North East Africa and Levant, said: "Schneider Electric has a strong interest in initiatives that achieve sustainable development in the societies in which it operates in, by providing clean energy that is the cornerstone of any development process. We are also concerned with the application of the ten objectives of the United Nations Charter, which address human rights and the need to provide favorable environmental conditions for people to have an improved life. We receive strong support in this regard from Mr. Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Chairman and CEO of Schneider Electric, as he is a board member of the United Nations Charter; so, Schneider has a strong commitment to implement sustainable development goals as part of its strategies and community initiatives
Sheta added: "Through this initiative and solutions of EcoStruxure™ platform, Schneider Electric has reduced carbon emissions in the area by approximately 47 tons per year that were caused by the use of diesel. Furthermore, the utilization of EcoStruxure™ set of solutions represents an integration of all solutions and systems across a software system and provides integrated support through Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology, thus ensuring that our customers have a higher value in terms of efficiency, sustainability and connectivity to support the infrastructure that contributes to converting data into actionable measures, which in turn achieves maximum benefit for energy uses
